🤝 MY COMMITMENT TO YOU

I believe politics should be a service to the public, not a path for personal gain. If elected as your representative on Glasgow City Council, I pledge to:

• Limit my personal take-home income strictly to a living wage.

• Donate the remainder of my councillor salary—at least £15,000 annually, £75,000 over 5 years—to the Glasgow Greens to support grassroots growth and local campaigning.

• Dedicate myself full-time to the responsibilities of being your councillor.

Some news!
November 2026

After much soul searching, I have decided to put myself forward as a potential Scottish Green Party candidate in the forthcoming Glasgow City Council elections. This was not an easy decision, but in the end I wanted to help contribute to a  better way of running our council and our city.

Firstly, a special thanks to MSP Patrick Harvie and MSP Iris Duane for proposing and seconding my candidacy.

About Me & My Green Party Record

  • Local Branch Leadership: Until September 2026, I served as Vice Co-Convenor of the Glasgow branch of the Scottish Green Party, and I have been a party member since 2019.

  • Electoral Experience: In July 2024, I stood as the Scottish Green candidate for the Glasgow West constituency in the UK General Election, securing third place with almost 10% of the vote—just behind Labour and the SNP (and taking a certain delight in beating Reform). Through this, I built strong ties with local residents and deeply understand Glasgow's social and environmental challenges.

  • National Committees: I have previously served as  member of the national Elections and Campaigns Committee (ECC) and currently sit on the national Conducts and Complaints Committee (CCC).

Professional & Community Background

  • Education Leadership: Until 2022, I worked as a Secondary Head Teacher serving one of the most deprived communities in North Lanarkshire. I possess decades of leadership experience managing public services, working directly with communities, and addressing local issues like youth services and equity.

  • Academic Foundation: My degree in Politics and History from Glasgow Caledonian University equips me with theoretical and practical insights into local government and effective policy-making.

  • Community Service: For the past 14 years, I have been a foster carer. For the last three years, I have volunteered as a panel member with Children’s Hearings Scotland to support young people, and I have been elected unopposed to serve on the Kelvindale Community Council.

Why I Am Standing & My Priorities

I believe I bring a unique blend of leadership, experience, academic knowledge, and grassroots climate activism. I would describe myself as an eco-socialist, aligning my politics with figures like Zac Polanski and Zohran Mamdani. The Scottish Greens holistic approach to politics resonates with me deeply, extending beyond environmental stewardship to include social justice, economic fairness, and participatory democracy.

If selected, my core priorities will be:

  • Tackling Inequality: Closing the gap between the majority of the population and the super-rich.

  • Cost of Living Crisis: Tackling the cost of energy, investing heavily in public transport, housing, and education.

  • Climate Breakdown: Making the climate crisis the a priority of local government. As an active member of Extinction Rebellion since 2019, I aim to bridge environmental activism with social justice.

  • Human Rights & Diversity: Embracing diversity is a core value for me.  Every individual deserves to live free from discrimination, prejudice, and violence. I will champion marginalised communities disproportionately affected by environmental degradation and social injustice.  I will fully protect and enhancing the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, and in particular our Trans brothers and sisters.

A Personal Note on My Activism

I suppose many of you who know me will assume I got my activism from my Dad. Brian Quail, but truth be told it was perhaps the other way around.  When I was at school I became active in the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND).  I put on a film called the War Game which my dad came to see.  It affected him deeply and so began a lifetime of campaigning against nuclear weapons.

My dad passed away a few months ago.  It was incredibly moving to receive so many messages from Green party members about how he had inspired them. A special thanks to Maggie Chapman MSP for raising a motion in parliament recognising his lifelong campaigning.

Campaigning

Conference Weekend
Scottish Green Party Conference, Inverness 2026.

I really enjoyed catching up with fellow Greens from across Scotland this weekend. There was lots of useful information, inspiring speeches and wonderful people who make the Green Party what it is.

I did not agree with every motion, but the important ones passed. As always, some media coverage tried to dismiss the Greens, including a story about a motion we never debated, let alone voted on.
